Systemaic to all

I just quit my job.

So far, three friends have cried. Not including me. I'll be in next week's body count of staccato weeping. It's cold here in New York today. I woke this morning with the warmth of tears running down my face. My diagnosed occular rosacia will be stuttering on and off toward an indeterminate future. The irony lies somewhere in the fact that I have 20/30 vision and a right eye that blinks out a bowl of virtual Chex Mix every time the lid flutters.

Bestow smiles upon me when you feel it's right. Scold me when I stray from y'all. I'm incredibly sad right now. Tell me that I'm not a bad writer. Or something to that effect.

Well... DUH. Of course you're not a bad writer. You have serious talent! {Stop fishing :)}

You've been down this road before and you always land on your feet.

Change is good, Patrick. If you need to talk, I'm here.

I don't know if it is right for you. Only you know if it is right for you. But I'll bestow smiles upon you still.

I think I'm a bad writer sometimes, too.

I think it's telling (and awesome) that friends at your job cried when you broke the news. That shows how deeply they love you.

When I quit my ad agency gig in NYC, no one cried. Heck, one guy, an AE on my account, called me an asshole for leaving. I did not offer him the pleasure of a response. I simply stared at his face, then looked away when he blinked. I have not seen him since that moment.

I believe that he was pissed because he lost a great writer. So I'll give him that. Yes, at that moment I was an asshole. And a great writer, too.

There are times when I would like to utter the words "I quit." I think it is natural and I think many of us who work for a living feel this way now and again. But then I look at my daughter and wife and know that it would be foolish to quit. I cannot let them down. I can let myself down, but I cannot allow myself to take them down with me. A loving father cannot do that to his family.

______________________________________________ Remember, they (ad agencies) need you more than you need them. At your level of experience and accomplishment, you can pick and choose your next gig. You know it, PK.

Rock on!

Well PK, you know you haven't been happy for a VERY long time...don't jump into anything too hastily...be selective on what your next move will be.

This is the close of one chapter, and the beginning of the next. Your friends are here for you when and if you need them....you know how incredibly talented you are..and you have a natural gift in the art of story telling/writing. Have faith my friend! Good things are just around the corner for you!

Thank you Anne and A. and Joe and Lulu. My heart is still a stone beating irregularly with thoughts of the unknown, but you all have bolstered my stance and are helping me not to fear the unknown. I will be a wreck for the next week or three, so please bear with me. Knowing that I have friends to rely upon and to bounce ideas off means more to me than you know.
